Wpc Brings Online And Live Poker Together
Judging by its name, one would think that the most respected organizations when it comes to poker is the World Poker Congress. However, whilst being an important institution, the WPC is in fact only four years old. It was initially created to help the online poker world, but now it has expanded to cover the land games as well. It claims to be the only conference which generates business between land and online poker businesses.
The WPC is due to hold its next meeting of poker professionals on June 24/25th 2009 in Porto, Portugal. One of its keynote speakers is the World Poker Tour CEO Steve Lipscomb who will be leading a discussion entitled “Remaking the Poker Market”. Lipscomb has recently been quoted saying, “the World Poker Congress is simply not like other conferences. In attendance are the decision makers from the most exciting companies in the poker arena – and they are there to do business." Other confirmed speakers this year include David Carrion of Cirsa, Bram Cops of Split Aces and Paul Davis of Chexx IOM.
There are a range of topics up for discussion for both live and online poker. Live poker discussions include tournament rules and standards, and organising tournaments, and online poker discussions include paying your winners, player trust and rakeback. The conference culminates in a keynote from Lipscomb and PartyGaming CEO Jim Ryan.
The biggest challenge facing the next meeting of the World Poker Congress is to get land and online poker companies to do business together. Of course in some cases, regulation has prevented this taking place, however, with new innovations in online gambling and strong demand for online poker, this year’s WPC will certainly help to bridge the gap.
